NAPOWRIMO Day 15 - Parody

This is a parody of William Wordsworth's poem, She Was a Phantom of Delight --- presented with apologies to the poet, although that must be posthumous; and apologies to my stubbornly wonderful Shih-tzu

Shih-tzu Was a Phantom of Delight

Shih-tzu was a phantom of delight
When first she waddled upon my sight;
A lovely apparition, sent
To be a barking impediment;
Her eyes as stars of a puppy fair;
Like twilight's, too, her grayish hair;
But all things else about her drawn
From play-time and the largest dog bone;
A dancing dog, an image gay,
To haunt, to startle, and annoy.

I saw her upon nearer view,
A puppy, yet a prankster too!
Her household motions rompish and free,
And papers of purest pedigree;
A wagging tail in which did meet
Sweet friendship, promises so sweet;
A creature not too bright or good
For treats and beefsteak daily food,
For chasing Frisbees, simple wiles,
Praise, blame, love, kisses, laughs and smiles.

And now I see with eye serene
The very pulse of the machine;
A puppy breathing selfish sighs,
A needy, pooping, parasite;
The reason stubborn, naughty will,
Floppy, wandering, with pricey vet's bill;
A perfect canine, nobly planned.
To warm, to comfort, and command;
And yet a best friend still, and bright
With something of angelic light.
