January Swallowtail

All the butterflies leave Iowa and fly further south by the end of October. When I brought my dog in the house after her morning run we paused by the back gate. The snow melted yesterday and revealed the decorative stone walk with a center tile of a yellow swallowtail. The sun was shining, the snow gone, and at least one butterfly was out this beautiful Tuesday in January in Iowa.
